Originally founded by Jonathan Sears in New York City, Sears Learning Consultancy now maintains a world-wide footprint. Over the years, the technology has changed but our three core principles stay the same.

 

Respect, Trust and Empower

 

Respect

Our learners are adults. It is all too common for learning professionals to forget this, and not treat their learners as such. When we don’t simplify learning so employees can quickly get back to work, we’re not respecting their time. When we don’t do the hard work to create content that is simple and easy to understand, the learner has to do the work we should have done. Think about consuming learning yourself, would you like consuming the learning you’re creating?

Trust

When you launch a learning portal or roll out a new learning program, you are entering into a relationship with your learners. They are trusting that this resource will help them in their job, and that it will not be burdensome. Every time you create a sub-standard product or don’t live up to your learning standards, you chip away at the trust the learner has placed in you. Always being mindful of your learners will keep you on the right track.

Empower

No matter what business objectives exist, learning should always be empowering. By experiencing your learning a learner should feel activated and ready to apply their new knowledge. If your learning doesn’t respect, you risk losing their engagement permanently.
